 Jack Murgatroyd

Born and raised in LA, Jack’s filmmaking originally stems from the surf world. What started out as shooting surf films with his friends and editing them in iMovie eventually turned into a trip to USC film school. Since graduating in 2011, he quickly returned to the surf and music worlds, cutting his teeth by helping film the feature documentary, No Cameras Allowed, where he snuck into music festivals with a camera around his neck and then followed it up with his own first feature, Dirty Old Wedge, which went on to win Best Documentary and Audience Awards at the Newport Beach Film Festival, Santa Cruz Film Festival, International Surf Film Festival and the London Surf Film Festival, among others as well as being nominated for Best Documentary of the Year by Surfer Poll.

With over ten years of experience, Jack’s focus is on refining and elevating his documentary approach to storytelling whether that be short form, long form or commercial work. It’s his firm belief that there’s so much untapped potential in the documentary genre so it’s with his eye for design, dynamic visuals and strong editing that he seeks to bring elements of originality to his work beyond a typical documentary approach, all the while ensuring a deep and authentic connection with his stories and characters.
